There is a need to create a new Job Family. When creating a new job family, a new job branch must also be created because jobs can only relate to job branches. The system is not configured for jobs to relate directly to job families.
Business Process Procedure Overview |
Creating a job family is a rare function that occurs as a result of reviewing/reorganizing existing jobs or creating a new series of jobs that do not relate to the existing job families. The Office of State Personnel through the authority granted by the State Personnel Commission is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of the job families.
The process of creating a job occurs at the direction of the Office of State Personnel through authority granted by the State Personnel Commission. OSP develops jobs to provide common treatment in the selection, compensation and other employment processes for State government entities subject to the State Personnel Act. A job is a generalized description of duties and responsibilities sufficiently similar in duty assignment to justify that common treatment. OSP must provide the following: name, abbreviation, job family, job branch, EEO code, State SOC code, retirement code, effective date and FLSA status.
A job family divides jobs into major occupational groups. Within each job family, jobs are further divided into job branches. The assignment of a job to a job family and branch is based on the nature of the work, educational requirements and required knowledge and skills. This grouping allows the user to view jobs with similar requirements and dominant characteristics more easily.
