Adjustment Reason - Late Entry

Trigger:

Employee elects to enroll in the State Health Plan outside of initial enrollment periods.

Business Process Procedure Overview

The State Health Plan allows employees to enroll in the plan during the plan year after their initial enrollment. In most instances, an employee will experience a life event (such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child) that will allow them to enroll outside of their initial enrollment or after open enrollment has ended. When a life event occurs an employee normally has 30 days from the date of that event to enroll. After the Benefit Administrator receives verification of the life event, they would create the appropriate adjustment reason. If an employee elects to enroll after their initial enrollment or after the live event period has expired, they may enroll in the health plan as a "late enrollee."  The State Health Plan requires that we track the last life event that would have made the employee eligible to enroll and the date of that event.

For example, an employee marries on February 14th, and does not notify the Service Center until May 15th. This event occurred more than 30 days in the past. They may still enroll in the health plan as early as June 1st, but the qualifying life event marriage needs to be documented and forwarded to the State Health Plan to satisfy their business needs.

The Late Entry adjustment reason would be created as of May 15th, and the marriage event that occurred on February 14th would be documented in the adjustment reason.
